Emerging Market Round Table

We are currently preparing an Emerging Market Round Table to be held on Wednesday, June 3rd. We have invited Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) and BlueBay who will share their insights on emerging markets investing and engage in an open discussion on this topic with a select audience of fund selectors and institutional investors. A summary from this round table will be published after the event next week.

We are somewhat isolated from the events taking place in London and in other parts of the worlds as we listen to speakers and panel sessions at the European Fund Manager Selection conference. But I arrived on Sunday evening and Monday was just plain scary and being in London today is certainly interesting as we wait for news from Nr. 10.

Quick notes from the first day of the conference;

- fund selectors must focus more on operational and risk research

- fund manager turnover will increase further and companies being affected by corporate activity will increase

Finally, Antony John from FundQuest UK offered the audience 3 killer questions to ask managers;

1. What have you got wrong over the last five years

2. What would you do differently, knowing what you know today

3. Where do you feel least confortable with your portfolio today

Preparing for the Fund Forum

On Sunday I’m off to Barcelona for the 18th annual Fund Forum International and just as last year, when the event was held in Monaco, we are a media partner at the event. Even more exciting is the fact that I will be the overall chairman for “Stream A” (The New Landscape And Players In Global Fund Management) on Tuesday, July 1^st, which means I am introducing the sessions which focus on fund selection. I will of course keep this blog updated with news from the event. Stay tuned.
